Saint Mary MacKillop's Contrbution

Towards Catholic Schools

In 1861 Mary and her sisters met Catholic priest Father Jullian Woods. Together in Penola South Australia, they opened up Australias first free Catholic School. Her desire to become a nun had then become stronger, but she had not found a order that suited her. No sooner later she left Penola and moved on to become a teacher. At the age 25 she then adopted the religious name, Sister Mary of the Cross. Again with Father Woods she opened another free catholic school for the poor. This school was Australias first religious order.

As you can see Mary MacKillops contribution towards Catholic schools in Australia was huge. As she had oppened up many free catholic schools for the poor and those in need. Without Mary, catholic schools would not be what they are today.
