Religion In Australia Before White Settlement

When the first fleet arrived on the Autralian continent in 1788, there were roughly 750 00 indiginous people in Australia, living in around 700 distinct groups. Each group had its religious system containing its own stories and rituals, they were very closely connected to the land.
The white people did not understand how important the land was to the indigenous people, and how distressing it was for them to move away from their sacred land. Aboriginals were often killed by squatter who travelled throught the area. They were killed if they tried to defend their land and lives, sometimes even in organised masscares.
